An active Configuration of a model will automatically be inserted when a part or subassembly is inserted into a higher level assembly workspace. After a part or subassembly has been inserted, the Configuration of a part or subassembly can be changed.

How to Change which Configuration is used in an Assembly

1.  Expand a part or subassembly.

2. The group for that part or subassembly will be displayed. Expand the Configurations group.

3. The Configurations for the part or subassembly will be displayed. Currently Config<1> is active.

4. Double-click Config<2> to make it the active Configuration. This will not affect which Configuration is active in any other assembly or in the original model workspace.

NOTE: Configuration information is only displayed for the immediate children of a root assembly. Parts nested within sub-assemblies will not have a Configuration category node. However, the activate Configuration name will be appended to the name of the part. Double clicking a Configuration will change the label next to a root part or assembly as shown in the image below.

How to Change which Configuration is used as a Component of a Subassembly

To set an active Configuration in a nested component that is not an immediate child of a root assembly, open the subassembly and change the active Configuration there.

A subassembly can be opened separately or it can be edited within the context of a root assembly. If a part is edited within the context of an assembly, the active Configuration for the part will automatically be set to match the configuration held by the assembly.
